Our Entrepreneur Speaker is Mark Laing is Managing Director of Nairn’s Oatcakes Ltd. The Company, was formed 16 years ago as a result of a Management Buyout from United Biscuits. It is the leading manufacturer of Oatcakes under the Nairn’s brand. It has a factory in Craigmillar, which employs 146 people and a turnover in 2010/11 of £16 million.
Mark Laing joined United Biscuits in 1972, after gaining a degree in Economics and Law from Cambridge University. He held a variety of positions, mainly in manufacturing, rising to Production Director for McVities Group in 1987. In 1989 he returned to Scotland as the Managing Director of Simmers. In 1996 Mark successfully led the management buyout of Simmers from United Biscuits and is now the Managing Director of Nairn’s Oatcakes Ltd. |
